Trying to break that broody chicken!
*Sigh* still trying to break her yesterday she stayed off the nest longer but it still being broody I think, although I just took my wire cage out of the coop I will have to bring it back in because she just isn't budging..

It's the bean!
The other day I went out on our porch where I have a bean plant, I was soo happy when I saw a bean on it!! The plant almost died a little while ago so it's pretty puny that's why I was so amazed to see a bean on it!!
Broody chicken!
Today, I was greeted with a broody! To bad I just got rid of my rooster, i'll break this one and maybe some time next year i'll let one of them hatch some eggs. :)

The last part of the story of my chickens :)
The rest of the story, I promise!! :)
So after a while of having just my seven chickens my rooster went crazy on me! He was normally just a really sweet rooster, the next day he attacks me.. I truly didn't know what to do with him.
So I try all kinds of stuff picking him up, etc, etc.. none of it worked. I now couldn't pick up any of the hens and I couldn't pick him up because he was now way, way to crazy, I was never gonna send him with that guy. My only choice was to put him on craigslist so I got a few offers and none of them returned my email, then one came in and they stayed in touch (yay!) we had him for about a week before he was going to be leaving. The people sounded really nice so I knew they would take good care of him.
That week went by pretty fast I also had a broody that would be hatching her eggs any day.... It was Saturday now and I went out to the chickens. A snake ate the eggs my broody was sitting on (OH NO!!!) the only thing that was left was some snake skin :( oh well I just have to try again. So anyway it was now time to take him, we had about a 30 minute drive to get him where we were going, I was pretty sure he would travel well (which he did!), so I put him in a big cardboard box with some wood shavings and we took off.
In the end he went to a good home and, i'll miss him but I know he went to a good home. :)
Here is a photo of my handsome boy :)

The story of the chickens part 2
Story continued...
So I had chickens out and running around now! They had tons of trees to go in so this was about my biggest problem, I ended up having to leave them out for a few more days because I couldn't catch them.... well that didn't seem to work because they were now dwindling down yet again! And on the last day I finally had some help to catch them, right before we got out there a chicken was killed from one of those darn chicken hawks (gah!!). We caught the other two and put them in the coop once again (brown leghorns), they didn't seem to happy about that but we got the run finished not too long after, we were done! Down too two chickens but hey we saved two!!
A few months after I went to my grandparents for the summer and had someone else taking care of them (I was gone for about 2 months) and when I got back my two chickens were gone and I had 17 new chicks! (what in the world?). So I had to figure out how in the world I got these guys and were did my chickens go?
I asked my friend who was taking care of them at the time and said "your chickens were eaten by a coon and someone else gave you these," (another person I know). Any way I now had 17 little chickies to take care of :) I knew nothing about what breeds they were but I soon figured it all out as they grew.
They all grew so fast! I did have one death in the bunch but that was all (he was the runt and got pecked badly by the other chickens :( ). Soon I found that I had seven roosters (Oh my gosh!!). So I kept one and sent the others with a person I knew, who had had chickens at one time (not a good idea! They ended up being treated badly and I will never send my chickens with him again.)
I now had my seven chickens and all were living well! :)
Here's some photos of the chickies :)
But wait there's more to this story!

The story of the chickens part 1
Anyone want to know how I got my chickens? Well I think I'm gonna tell you guys :)
I had inherited about 30 chickens from a friend who was moving and she couldn't take the chickens along at the time so naturally I said I would take care of them, no one knew how long I would have them or if they were gonna stay with me and she was going to get new chickens or not.
Well they ended up staying, this was my first time having chickens and I truly had no idea what I was doing, but I seemed to figure things out alright.
Things went well for quite a while then it all started to go down hill. I went out to the chickens one day and a few were eaten, this was my first time anything had happened like this and it was quite disappointing. From then on chickens were dwindling down every day I didn't know what to do!!
I had a big dog run thing and I put them in there but someone took them out! I couldn't believe it! And of course these chickens were not tame!! I spent forever getting them in there.
So my fiend finally cam and got around 10 of the chickens but I now had 8 chickens and nothing to protect them because they took the electric fence too. Now what was I gonna do?! My dad and I had to figure out how to build a run and fast!
I got the last few chickens in the coop and locked them in there for a quite a while, with food and water keeping it very clean. I didn't let them out... but of course they somehow got out!
Here is a photo of the 30 chickens
To be continued.... :)
"Hi!"
Today I went out to the chickens and Red (Red star) greeted me with some loud clucking which she does every day, i'm pretty sure she was saying "Hi!"
Everyday I get greeted with this clucking from Red, she is the loudest chicken in the bunch but everyone has one of those right? :)
So here's Red the loud chicken. :)

The start of the blog :)
If you have chickens we all know there is always something to learn about having them! I've learned SO much having them it's amazing. One thing I know I learned was that they all have different personalities, some can be super curious, some can be mean, some can be very loving and others can just be those great egg layers you never want to get rid of!
So to get things started off here's Esamie the chicken she is a black star and an amazing egg layer but very loving indeed!
